Meet Sam Newhouse

Sam Newhouse

Frederick County Born & Raised

Sam Newhouse grew up right here in Frederick County, raised by two public school teachers who dedicated their careers to Frederick County Public Schools.

That upbringing shaped everything Sam believes about public service: that it starts with showing up, listening, and doing the work. From classrooms in New Market to the halls of Penn State, from the Marine Corps to the broadcast studio, Sam has carried those Frederick County values with him at every step.

Now he is running for County Council to make sure our local government reflects the same dedication, honesty, and respect for community that his parents modeled every day.

Roots in Frederick County

Sam was born and grew up in Frederick County. Both of his parents were public school teachers with Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS), giving Sam a front-row seat to the dedication it takes to serve a community and the real impact that good public institutions have on people's lives.

Growing up in New Market, Sam learned early that strong communities are built by people who care enough to invest their time, energy, and talent in the place they call home.

Education & Military Service

Sam attended Penn State University to study Film and Communications, where his work as a Videographer and Editor earned him two Emmy Awards for excellence in broadcast sports programming.

During this time, Sam also enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve as a LAV Crewman, completing monthly training at Fort Detrick. He achieved the rank of Corporal and took on the responsibility of leading junior Marines, an experience that sharpened his discipline, attention to detail, and commitment to mission accomplishment.

Discipline & Service

Sam's career as a communicator taught him the value of clear, accessible information and making sure every audience member can understand and engage with what matters. His Marine Corps experience honed a deep sense of diligence and detailed task execution that he brings to every challenge.

These twin foundations, the ability to communicate clearly and the discipline to follow through, are exactly what Frederick County needs in its next council member.

Family & Community

Sam's commitment to public service runs in the family. His mother Anne dedicated her career to FCPS, and that tradition of showing up for Frederick County students and families is something Sam carries forward every day.

The values instilled by two public school teachers, hard work, fairness, community investment, are the foundation of Sam's campaign and the principles he will bring to the County Council.

Showing Up. Listening. Doing the Work.

Sam believes good government starts at eye level — in the conversations, at community events, and alongside the neighbors, volunteers, and organizers who make Frederick County what it is.

Why Sam Is Running

Sam decided to run for Frederick County Council because he was deeply disappointed by the attitudes of county council members during public hearings and their apparent disregard for residents' testimony and will.

After watching hearing after hearing, Sam was deeply moved by the extensive testimony from county residents, people who took time out of their lives to speak up about the issues that matter most to their families and communities. He was equally deeply concerned with the response from the county council, which too often seemed dismissive, indifferent, or disconnected from the people it is supposed to serve.

Sam believes that when residents show up to speak, their council members have an obligation to listen, and to act accordingly. That basic principle of representative government is what drives his campaign.

"When people take the time to show up and speak at a public hearing, the least their elected officials can do is listen. Frederick County deserves a council that respects the people it represents."
